Welcome to the Toucan class.

The Year 1 Toucan class teachers are Mrs. Lea Alton, Mrs. Alison Husselbee and Miss Sian Hodgkiss. Megan Rose-Hall and Sally McIlwrick are the Teaching Assistants supporting learning and teaching in this phase of learning. All of the adults who work in Toucans are kind and friendly, and they work hard to ensure every child in Year 1 has opportunities to achieve their full potential. Planned learning opportunities reflect the needs of the children and their current levels of attainment, their interests, and next steps to move their learning forward.

The children across school have opportunities to learn in lots of bright and exciting spaces like the artificial grassed area, the garden area, the playground and the school field. There are lots of opportunities to learn in a variety of ways. For example through practical activities, independent learning, educational visits and also visits from people in our local and wider communities.

The children in Year 1 work with lots of different children throughout the day and they are expected to work hard and do their best. They enjoy learning and helping each other to learn.

During their time at school the children are encouraged to be Eco friendly and to look after the school. They are given opportuntiies to take part in a wide range of after school clubs and success at out of school clubs are celebrated in school.

The school has a School Council that meet weekly and the Year 1 children are involved with electing their year group representatives three times a year.
