Tibshelf Infant and Nursery School holds the Artsmark status as a Silver Artsmark school and we have started our new journey to become a ‘Gold Artsmark’ School.

We are committed to the creative arts at our school and have recently enjoyed exhibiting our work at our own Art Exhibition. During the year artwork is usually linked to the topics or themes that each year group is studying.

For example, Year 2 have produced detailed chalk and oil pastel drawings when they learnt about The Great Fire of London and observational line drawings using acrylic pens to create a collaborative Remembrance Day mosaic.

Year 1 enjoyed learning about Autumn through Andy Goldsworthy land art in the garden area. During the year we also ensure that key skills in art are taught including drawing, painting, printing, 3D /sculpture, collage and textiles.

Each year group also studies at least one artist during the year such as Andy Goldsworthy, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, James Brunt. We invite artists into school to support learning in the arts and produce specialist artwork for our Artsmark and classroom displays.

Throughout the year seasonal celebrations and events also provide opportunities for artwork for example: Harvest, Diwali, Christmas and Chinese New Year are taught throughout the school and usually include an art element such as designing cards or masks, role play, drama and music. Across the school, staff use the Minute of Listening to help children develop their listening and perceptive skills and our Whole School Art days enables children to participate in a range of Arts with a range of professional artists.
